2012 Planner – The First 30 Day Challenge

2012 Planner – The First 30 Day Challenge.

I want to invite my friends, family and followers to join me in this challenge to begin and end your day balanced!

I downloaded this 2012 planner which really helps getting things organized – your time, spiritual growth, family life, house, budget and more….love it.  I am ADD so it’s hard to stay “on task” and I constantly have to rely on lists so I don’t forget what it is I need to be doing. I am using this planner to help keep on track with my music and career goals, budgeting and more.

Let me know if you are joining and we can keep each other updated on our progress!

Studio Work in Nashville!

First off – THANKS for the views – I hit 400 views as of 1/22/12, whooo hoo – only 2 weeks up and running! In the last week I’ve added a few audio clips and 2 videos just to get the ball rolling….so if you haven’t clicked on the audio or video tab…there’s stuff there now to see and hear!

Last weekend I was in Nashville to record background vocals for Zetti Carnell’s EP project to be released this spring. It’s sounding amazing and the closest I can compare it to is Bruno Mars meets Sara Bareilles meets Adele.  I snuck in a little video camera in the vocal booth to give you guys a behind the scenes look at what I do when tracking BGV’s or (back ground vocals).  Zetti laid the lead vocal and then I come behind her with harmonies, one part at a time. I sing the same thing over and over again to thicken it up by what we call “stacking”.   So you’ll hear me singing just little snippets of parts and hear her in my headphones in the background. It doesn’t make much sense now…..but in a few months when you hear the finished project you’ll understand how those BGV’s got there!

Making a song “your own”

Florence Welch.

How many singing competitions have you heard the comment, “make the song your own”?  This is a perfect example of how to cover a popular song without mimic-ing that artist and being a total copycat.  Florence totally found herself in this song and did it her own way – great interpretation. THIS is how you “make a song your own”.

New Year’s resolutions – stop talking about it and DO it!

So, here we are in 2012, hard to believe?! 2011 came and went faster than ever.

As usual, I make promises to myself at the beginning of the year and like everyone else don’t keep them, forget about them or just talk about them and DO nothing.

One of the things I promised myself for 2012 was that I would make a conscious effort to put myself out there and be available for ANY singing opportunities that presented themselves and work on creating those opportunities as well. That is the reason I created this blog-site. So here I am – exposed – and out there!

If you are any kind of artist-musician, you understand that as a creative person you are subject to so much criticism and competition that sometimes you just shut down from the fear. I think that’s what I did over the last few years…shut down. I started thinking about all the other singers out there better than I am, skinnier than I am, younger than I am and then figured – who wants to see ME? Who wants to hear ME? What do I have to say? offer?

The fact is…there is ALWAYS someone better than you…but in turn…there are probably lots of people out there DOING what you want to be doing that are not as good as you are…they just believed in themselves and decided they didn’t care what everyone else thought, said, what have you and just went for it. I’m at that place in my life.

I saw this little sign on and it really clicked:

So, here’s my first step 2012!

What are some of your goals-resolutions-promises to yourself this year?!!

First blog post

Welcome to my official site!

Over the next few weeks I’ll be adding information and music to this site. I will also upload some videos of me performing with some other artists that I often work with or maybe just me myself and I.

You can find me in the studio backing other artists in their recordings and on the stage performing my own music.

Check back and stay in touch!
